Option 1 (cost under $5): Find the tube going to the IAC valve, should be 1/2" ID. Grab about 3 feet of equivalent tubing at the hardware store as a replacement, coil it up in the engine bay and connect to the IAC and intake Accordion fitting.
Option 2 (cost under $1): Get a 1/2" copper cap fitting from the hardware store. Drill a small hole in it (about 1/8") and insert it into the 1/2" tube feeding the IAC valve. Reconnect tube. Enlarge the hole slightly if your car won't idle as high as it normally does.
Answergo to a ford dealer, and ask the shop foreman to take a drive with you...tell him or her that the noise has been misdaignosed by others(your friends or a neighbor) and that you want his opinion...you don't need to check it in for service, just thank him or her and be on your way...also...everyone should have a manual for their vehicle(parts store or dealer), and a local library should have professional shop manuals available in the REFERENCE section for free...make copies of the appropriate sections...read up and good luck :)
( No ) the Ford Contour is a front wheel drive vehicle
No. The Contour is a front-wheel drive car, and the Ranger is rear wheel drive.
The Ford Contour/Mercury Mystique is a front-wheel drive, transverse engine car. In other words, the engine is mounted "sideways" in the front of the car, and drives the front, rather than the rear wheels. The transmission (or, more properly, the "transaxle") is bolted to the engine on the left side of the engine compartment. It contains the transmission itself, along with the differential.
front wheel drive
check your engine monts you can do this by having someone stand a long side of the car looking at the engine put the car into drive and se if the engine jerks left or right go back and forth to drive and reverse if it moves a lot then your engine mont is bad

front wheel drive
Yes , the Ford Contour is front wheel drive
the contour over heated when stop cause the radiator is not getting that additional air blast like when you drive. Perhaps the radiator fan maybe dead. To chaeck that, let your engine run for 10 min. Open the hood, look at the fan......if it not spinning wait and watch another 3 min... If the fan never kicks in.,,, you need to get another fan kit. get at the scrap yard. Contour's computors are set up to run the engine super hot. Why?...dunno. Do not drive around if your fan doesn't work. You'll blow your engine cooling system and your engine will seize, means will died. And then, you will be liberated from that shameful missengineered car.
check harmonic balancer. check harmonic balancer.
You can drive for awhile without the alternator or power steering working but without the water pump working you won't get far without doing serious damage to the engine. So if that serp belt drives the water pump the answer is no.
it is a unibody car basically made of 2 subframes, 1 in front to hold engine and transmission up and one in rear for the rear suspension / drive train
