Because maybe they're actually interested in being friends? Depends on the person I guess and how your relationship ended. If the person has shown in the past to be trustworthy then do not worry about it, they are probably genuinly interested in your friendship. But if they have shown that they are not trustworthy then just be careful, watch how they react to certain situations and play of what they are doing. Make sure that you know what their intentions are before you open up too much though.
