The cold stimulation test for Raynaud's phenomenon is a test that measures the temperature of each finger after they are placed in an ice-water bath.
How the test is performedA heat sensor is taped to your fingers and the temperature is recorded. Your hand is then immersed in ice water for 20 seconds. Then it is removed from the bath and the temperature recorded every 5 minutes until your finger temperature is the same as it was before the bath.
How to prepare for the testNo special preparation is necessary for this test.
How the test will feelThere may be some discomfort while your hand is in the cold water.
Why the test is performedThis test is a screening tool for Raynaud's phenomenon.
Normal ValuesNormally your finger temperature will return to normal within 15 minutes after the cold water exposure.
What abnormal results meanYou may have Raynaud's phenomenon if your finger temperature takes greater than 20 minutes to return to pre-bath temperature.
What the risks areThere are no risks associated with this test.
Special considerationsThis test should not be performed if you have a finger infection or problems with the blood supply to your fingers.
Nerve conduction velocity test-- A test that measures the time it takes a nerve impulse to travel a specific distance over the nerve after electronic stimulation.
The cold test determines if there's change is blood pressure. The difference in Hypo and Hyperreactor is that hypo is a lot smaller.
Hot air rises, cold air falls. Don't ask me why, but it doesn't matter, the reason wont be on the test.
In fact hot water freezes quicker in a cold climate, because of the sudden temperature change. If you want to test it for yourself, take two ice trays, fill one with cold water and one with very hot water, stick them in the freezer, and see that the hot water freezes quicker.
My fiance and I did an experiment with hot and cold water to see which one would make ice cubes faster. Honestly they froze at about the same time. He was taught that because its hot the molecules come together faster in the cold air, but during the test it was equal. As for the salt water I would think that would come in last.
The temperature of affected fingers or toes is taken. The hand or foot is then placed completely into a container of ice water for 20 seconds. After removal from the water, the temperature of the affected digits is immediately recorded
The renin stimulation test is performed to help diagnose and distinguish the two forms of hyperaldosteronism.

The CRH stimulation test is given to help distinguish between patients with pituitary adenomas and those with either ectopic ACTH syndrome or cortisol-secreting adrenal tumors.
In doubtful cases of medullary carcinoma of thyroid, a pentagastrin stimulation test is done. Pentagastrin 0.5 µg/kg is given intravenously. Levels increase in medullary carcinoma of the thyroid but remain unchanged in normals.
