For the past decade, the professional work environment has become far more reliant on technology than they ever were before. Today, most businesses of all sizes require having an integrated computer network, which is often too complex for a typical employee to build and maintain on their own. Since having a network established is so important, most businesses will end up hiring an IT professional to build and maintain the network for them. For those that are interested in that line of work, becoming an IT professional could be a great option. To start the process of becoming an IT professional, a person will first need to get their education. An IT professional can typically the education necessary by attending a technical school, which focuses on computer technology and network development. Other IT professionals will first attend a standard four year college, which has a degree program that focuses on information technology or a related field. While getting a degree in information technology is important, it is generally even more important for an IT professional to spend time each year attending continuing education courses, which will discuss changes in the field and in the technology. For most IT professionals, one of the key responsibilities is setting up a computer network for a business. This can include linking all of the computers together, establishing some form of linked storage system, and ensuring that the employees of the company are all connected on the same email system. One of the most important tasks that the professional has when developing the network is ensuring that the network is secure and cannot by infiltrated by hackers that may be looking to steal information. Beyond building a network, the professional will also be tasked with training all of the employees of the company how to use the network. The professional will also have to update and maintain the network on a regular basis. This process will include implementing new systems that come are developed in the industry or adding more storage capacity as the business continues to grow.
