I have been going to the Rheinlander since I was a child with my family, and I have continued the tradition with my kids. Whether going out for a romantic date, a big gathering, or a simple family night out, the Rheinlander has everything that you are looking for.I always like to start my meal with one of their Fondue pots. You haven't lived until you've had their authentic Munich pretzels dipped in cheese. You can make an entire meal out of their fondue pots! When I am not in the mood for Fondue, I enjoy their bier onion au gratin soup. Absolutely divine soup! I enjoy washing it down with one of their wild berry lemonades.When it comes to their main dishes, you really can't go wrong with any of them. One of my personal favorites, is the Hungarian chicken jager. I love the paprika cream sauce on top, and the spatzle on the side. When I am looking for something a bit lighter, I get their schnitzel club sandwich, and my husband is in love with their Ruben sandwich. My kids devour the spatzle and cheese kids' meal, a twist on the classic macaroni and cheese. It is so good, I would order it for myself if I could! They also get a drink and dessert with their meal.I try to always save room for dessert. I often save half my entree for lunch the next day, just so I can fit in one of their desserts. Their bread pudding is simply to die for! Worth every calorie. I also enjoy the apple strudel and the crme brule.We have always had excellent service at the Rheinlander. While you wait for your meal, they have an Accordion player to serenade you. It also occupies your kids while they wait for their food. Every time we go, we feel like we are members of their family. The hospitality is impeccable, and if we ever do have an issue, they do their best to make it right as quickly as possible. You simply cannot beat the Rheinlander when it comes to the best food and service in Portland.
