They are one of the best swimmers in the world because of their flippers and fins which allows them to glide fast through the water.

Seals, or phocids, are called seals because there nostrils 'seal' at rest while swimming, they have internal ears only, they propel themselves with their rear tail fins and they can hold their breath, and warm blood, in some extreme environments.

Sea-lions differ with external ears, front flipper propulsion and a useful pelvis allowing rear leg rotation below the body.

Think of seals as slugs and sea-lions as bears that swim

The leopard seal is the second largest species of seal in the Antarctic. It is most common in the southern hemishpere along the coast of Antarctica and on most sub-antarctic islands, but can also be found on the coast of Australia, Tasmania, South Africa, New Zealand, Lord Howe Island, Terra del Fuego, the Cook Islands, and the Atlantic coast of South America. It can live twenty-six years, possibly more. Orcas and large sharks are the only natural predators of leopard seals.

The leopard seal is large and muscular, with a dark grey back and light grey on its stomach. Its throat is whitish with the black spots that give the seal its common name. Females are generally slightly larger than the males on average. The bulls are generally 2.5- 3.2m (8.2-10.5 ft) and weigh between 200 and 460 kg (440 and 1,000 lb) while cows are between 2.4 and 3.4m (7.9 and 11.2 ft) in length and weigh between 225 and 600kg (500 and 1,300 lb). The Leopard Seal is highly evolved for its role as apex predator. Although it is a true seal and swims with its hind limbs, it has power.

A baby seal is born with white fur to blend in with the snow and just like humans they cry for there mother when they are hungry, when they are in the water there eye pupil takes up there whole eye but when on land they shrink back into the center, and when on land if there is something in it's eyes it will cause water to slowly drop out of it's eyes so it can clean them
