I think technically Micheal McDonald did it first, but the version in the Ad is the Chili Peppers playing. It is the RHCP's version (I believe) that is played for the commercial but it wasn't Michael McDonald that did it first, Stevie Wonder sang it first and was the writer of the song. The Chili Peppers covered it in '89 and the two versions are equally good in their own ways.
