Henri Matisse was a famous French artist. He is known for his use of color. He was a draughtsman, printmaker and sculptor, but is mainly known as a painter. He was one of the one of the first artists in the Fauvist movement. Fauvism is an art movement which is famous for its use of bright color and energetic brush strokes. His work spanned half a century, and he is acknowledged as a leading figure in modern art.
His first painting was called 'Me, Matisse'.
