Why sometimes the moon is crescent and sometimes full?

From the question, we're not really sure of what information is being sought.

No eclipse ... lunar or solar ... ever occurs when the moon is in a crescent phase.

Since eclipses are the result of one body crossing through the shadow of another,

and the sun is the big flashlight that's causing the shadows, eclipses only occur

when the sun, earth, and moon are all lined up. That can happen either with the

moon in the middle or else with the earth in the middle, and the corresponding

phases are New Moon and Full Moon, respectively.

Only a small amount of sunlight falls on a the moon's near side (the part we see from Earth), during the waxing and waning crescent moon phases, so the rest of the moon's near side which is not facing the sun is in darkness and thus cannot be seen.
