Explain why the moon has no atmosphere?

Basically the reason why the moon hasn't got a atmosphere its because there are no active/live volcanoes at all which means its a dead lump of rock which can't support any living things. Its a chunk of rock meteorites hit the moon all the time that it would destroy its atmosphere (if it had one) any ways. also to hold and atmosphere is would need Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide and all these types of gases for it to happen.
