Neither of these require energy. Diffusion occurs naturally when a higher concentration of a substance exists on one side of a membrane than the other; molecules will enter into the area of lesser concentration until there is an equilibrium on both sides.

Active transport requires the energy of the cell.

Answer: Symport (mastering microbiology)

Reason: Symport is coupled with a uniport that actively transports molecules against their concentration gradient. Then, once those same molecules are in high concentration outside the cell, their diffusion back into the cell provides energy to transport a different molecule against its concentration gradient through the symport into the cell. This diffusion does not require energy in the form of ATP. Thus, symport is the only active transport types that employs diffusion.
