Why do plants need the weather?

Trees do the process of photosynthesis. This is when the trees absorb carbon dioxide, store the carbon and release oxygen for all the other organisms to breathe.

At the moment we have a lot of carbon dioxide in the air which is contributing to the greenhouse effect, global warming and climate change.

By planting more trees, and not cutting as many down we can help reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the air. this is because there will be more trees to store the carbon. About half the weight of a growing tree is carbon, stored in its roots, trunk, branches and even leaves. And it can store this carbon safely for hundreds of years.

The trees and most plant life needs the sun to make food. The sunlight serves as the process called photosynthesis which the plant utilizes in combining water and mineral to create plant starch which in turn serves as the plants food.

• Extremely dry, hot weather facilitates wildfires, which actually serve to thin out overpopulated plant life. Additionally, there are plant seeds which lie dormant until such an event occurs
• Additionally, every way in which the weather effects the animals in the area has an impact on the plants, as they are all part of the carbon cycle.

Trees prevent excess transpiration of water by their shade, and their decay material also helps build soil. Trees do play a part in the CO2 O2 balance. But not through altruism.
