As a simple experiment, you may try to subject iron nails to different treatments (heating, magnetizing, coating with various materials, etc.) and then submerge them in either water or vinegar for a defined period of time (1 day, 3 days, etc.). Be sure to include negative control (a nail that has undergone no treatment) and positive control (if possible, because chromium coated nails are hard to come by and can be expensive). After the defined period of time, the degree of corrosion on each nail can be subjectively evaluated by comparing against the negative (and positive) controls.

Can okra mucilage be used in preventing corrosion?

No, it's not anti-corrosive.

Can you call the corrosion of all metals as rusting?

No. Rust (iron oxide) only occurs in metals containing iron. A couple examples of different types of corrosion are galvanic corrosion and chloride pitting corrosion.

Which is the best method for preventing corrosion and an accerate scale to measure the corrosion?

A method of preventing corrosion of metals using silanes. The method comprises applying a first treatment solution directly onto the surface of the metal, wherein the first treatment solution contains at least one multi-functional silane having at least two trisubstituted silyl groups, and wherein the substituents are individually chosen from the group consisting of alkoxy and acetoxy. An optional second treatment solution containing an organ functional silane may also be employed, particularly if the metal is to be painted.

What are Anti Corrosive paints?

Paints which bond with metal so tightly that oxygen can not penetrate the bond, preventing corrosion.

Why do you treat water within a closed circuit cooling system of a building?

To deoxygenate the water, thus preventing corrosion

What is cathodic protection used for?

Cathodic protection is a way of preventing or controlling corrosion of a metal structure.

How do you store copper?

Copper can be stored in bottles containing water, such that none of the copper is exposed to air, as this can cause the corrosion of copper.

How does stainless steel resist corrosion?

It has a quantity of Chromium (usually around 10%) added during the smelting process. The Chromium forms a 'film' on the surface - preventing rusting.

What is the difference between stainless steel and normal steel?

stainless steel has chromium added to the steel, which forms a protective oxide layer at the surface, preventing corrosion (rust).
