Best Answer

The BONDS in PCl5 are POLAR because of Chlorine's greater electronegativity compared to Phosphorus.. However, the entire molecule is NONPOLAR because the Chlorine's are arranged in a trigonal bipyramidal form with no unpaired electrons on the Central P, thus the Chlorine's share the electrons equally.

No it's symmetrical. Its structure is a trigonal bypyramid with Bromine atoms in the axial position and the three chlorines in the equatorial position. The linear Br-P-Br ensures cancellation of P-Br dipoles, and the planar triangle arrangement of the three equatorial Chlorines around the P ensures again the cancellation of P-Cl dipoles.
