A bonfire burning is a chemical change because it is sending of a gas, as well as turning into ash which is a new substance. It is also a chemical change because of the flammability and the ability to burn.

yes! Carbon based matter is transformed into heat energy from the ignition source by either a chemical stimulant or by friction....or both. Given perfect conditions containing atmospheric pressure or[ applied vast pressures] & dehydration the matter will auto combust into flames all by itself. Exmple: a "muck-fire", found in swampy regions, where vast pressures from the above weight of the soils or water/mud create the extreme heat needed to ignite the dead/decayed matter underneath the swampy conditions... a much fire must burn itself out naturally also the element P (phosphorus) is also found in the earth and is found in Phosphates thru out the strata of the planet Earth.
