It forms arange of mercury (I) , mercurous, compounds that contain the cation Hg22+ it also forms mercury(II), mercuric, compounds containing Hg2+ It forms some interesting compounds with nitrogen like Millons base used in qualitative analysis which has the [Hg2N+] n polymeric ion. There is many organomercury compounds known which are all toxic.
