Polar in chemistry, also know as a polar covalent bond, happens when 2 or more non-metals create a bond. Polar bonds are usually liquids or solids and are soluble. For example, water (H2O) is polar covanlent. It is made up of Hydrogen and Oxygen, with hydrogen having a partial positive and oxygen with a partial negative. This means that neither can make full ions, only partial.

You could have cold polar weather, for example. Sometimes you hear about "polar opposites" meaning two things which are as much opposites of each other as the North Pole is the opposite of the South Pole. In chemistry, a polar compound is one whose molecule has negative and positive poles. Water is the most familiar example. The oxygen atom has a negative charge and the two hydrogen atoms have a positive charge, because the shared electrons are not evenly shared, they spend more time with the oxygen atom than with the hydrogen atoms.

The TLC plate was developed in a mixture of petroleum ether and ethyl acetate with a 9:1 ratio respectively. This would mean that the solvent used is non-polar due to the large amount of petroleum ether. Finally our group was able to determine the Rf value of benzophenone and we found out that it has an Rf value of 0.4737 so this would mean that benzophenone is non-polar because its Rf value is near to 1.
