When the liquid is heated (by the environment), the particles in the liquid have more energy, and start moving around more, which causes the liquid to expand and take up more room.

Conversely, in cold temperatures, the particles do not have as much energy, and do not move as much, so the liquid contracts.

Why does the liquid level rise in a thermometer when the temperature is higher?

The liquid expands when it gets warmer.

How does thermometer liquid?

When temperature goes up the liquid expands. The liquid then takes up more space and you see this as a rise in scale on the thermometer. The same applies vise versa

How does a liquid thermometer works?

Why does the liquid level rise in a theremometer when the temperature is higher?

The liquid in the thermometer's bulb gets heated and, as it does, it expands into the stem.

What does liquid thermometer do when the liquid is warmed?

When the liquid in a thermometer is warmed, the liquid (mercury) rises higher and tells us that the temperature is rising, therefore, when the liquid is cold, it will lower. Also, the reason why the liquid can lower and rise is because of the humidity and air pressure.

Why does liquid inside a thermometer rise as the temperature s increase?

Most materials expand with the temperature increases. In this case, the liquid in the thermometer expands faster than the glass that holds it.

Explain how a deformation thermometer measures temperature?

A deformation thermometer measures temperature by the mercury or alcohol in the thermometer being touched by heat. The cold makes the liquid in the thermometer retract, and heat makes it rise or expand.

What are the materials used for a Galileo thermometer?

A Galileo thermometer is a thermometer made of a sealed glass cylinder containing a clear liquid and a series of objects whose densities are such that they rise or fall as the temperature changes.

What are the advantage of gas thermometer over the liquid thermometer?

gas thermometer are more sensitive then liquid thermometer

Why does the liquid in a thermometer rise when the temperature increases?

The liquid expands as its temperature increases. This is the same as saying that it occupies more space as temperature increases. Therefore it 'uses up' more of the space inside the thermometer as the temperature increases.

Why does liquid in thermometer rise when you put the thermometer in a glass filled hot water?

Because that liquid in thermometer is actually a kind of metal called mercury (atomic symbol Hg). And like all metals it expand when heated. Hot water contains heat. --------------------------------------------- Because the liquid in the thermometer expands when it is warmed. As it expand it takes up more space and therefore rises up the measuring tube of the thermometer. There is liquid in some thermometer but, most have chemicals in it!!!!!!!!!!!
