What is 500mb speed in internet connections?

Depends on what your doing. if its just the occasional web page, facebook, twitter and msn then it will be more then enough. But if you plan on watching YouTube videos 24/7 id go for something quite a it higher

Hours are units of time. Bytes are units of data. You cannot convert between the two without some other relationship. You could, for example specify a data transmission rate, which could then be used to calculate how many hours would be required to transmit 500 megabytes or you could specify a rate at which data is written by a device to calculate how many hours it would take to write 500 megabytes.

The question is really equivalent to something like "How many hours is a gallon". The dimensions are not equivalent, so you cannot convert from one to another like you could with quarts & gallons or with minutes & hours.

For an ordinary phone (not smartphone), it is more than enough, and I recommend you to choose a cheaper data plan (in Indonesia, 500Mb costs Rp25000(~$2.50)to Rp50000(~$5) while 200MB only costs half of that) For an android smartphone or iPhone, it is pretty enough. For an android tablet or iPad, it is enough if you only browse and download a few apps and/or email attachment (no streaming, download big files, etc), but I recommend you to choose data plan with at least 1GB. For a notebook/netbook/pc, I will divide it into some categories (sentence structure: usage: enough or not (minimum recommendation)):

Mail, Text Browsing, and Chat: Pretty Enough (500MB)

Image Browsing and Light (<10mb) download: Not Enough (1GB)

Heavy Image Browsing, Audio Streaming, and Medium-Heavy (>10MB) Download: Not Enough (2GB)

Video Streaming, Online Game, VoIP, Heavy (>100MB) Download: Not Enough (5GB)<p>

PS: I use 500MB data plan, which is pretty enough, on my Samsung Android Smartphone and 7GB data plan, which is a bit too much, on my USB Modem.

That depends a lot on what type of information you transfer. For example, if you look at lots of high-quality images, or movies, the MB will be used up much faster than if you look only at text files.
