∙ 9y agoAll programs give instructions to computers. A computer program is simply a sequence of instructions and the act of creating those sequences is known as programming. Note that the term software does not apply here because software includes both programs and data, but data does not physically instruct the computer. Data has to be interpreted by a program that actually understands what that data represents.
We can also say that a program that instructs the computer is a machine code program. No matter what language the program was written in, it must be converted to machine code before it can be used to instruct the computer. Machine code is the only language the machine actually understands, thus we must use machine code programs to convert high-level languages like C++ and Java to the native machine code required by the machine.
