This question has huge potential, and in order to answer I will assume you are referring to my opinion on the existence of computers, microwaves and other appliances such as that; as well as technology everyday people do not have access to; for example the space rocket. Also the invention of weaponry has caused wars and much suffering for human beings, so I will be analysing that for you as well. Firstly, recent technology has allowed us to explore many things we never even dreamed of exploring around 500 years ago, as well as give us a much better understanding of the world, and even the space surrounding us. The invention of the Hubble telescope is definitely a good invention because it has allowed us to see the solar system, other solar systems and lone stars which in the future could potentially be locations for human civilisation if problems occur such as if earth gets too overpopulated, which is a huge advantage because it would provide an alternate living planet and we would owe it to technology. However some forms of technology have many disadvantages... We use appliances such as microwaves everyday, they are easy to cook food with, quick and worry free! - not... Microwaves work by exposing your food to microwave radiation, vibrating the water particles in your food to heat it, which you then eat. You consume irradiated food, and although there has not been any proven effects, there could potentially be some undiscovered long term effects; bearing in mind X-ray radiation ionises your cells - possibly causing them to be cancerous - and even though microwaves have a much longer wave length than x-rays and even visible light, they still have the potential to damage your body. Even if microwave radiation is only exposed to your food, some of it will escape the microwave and enter everything in your house. This paragraph is based on my personal beliefs and contains information yet to be proven or disproven, however there is the factual information such as X-ray radiation ionises cells which it does. Therefore, is using this kind of technology good? Technology is a term most people use to describe the best things people have access to, eg computers, iPads etc; when actually, the term refers to scientific knowledge being applied for practical purposes. 3000 years ago when someone knew the wheel could roll, they attached it to a cart and attached the cart to a horse; this is a practical application, therefore 'horse and cart' is a form of technology. This means that the everyday pen is a form of technology because it is the practical application of scientific knowledge, and the pen is a brilliant invention which we use everyday. Many things we use are a form of today's technology and we don't recognise them as that; however most of them are amazing. Finally, the technology of weaponry. Guns and knifes are definitely not a good form of technology, because they were designed only to kill people and animals. But it goes further than just the average everyday pistol: we now have nuclear technology. Nuclear weapons such as icbms (inter-continental ballistic missiles) have the potential to destroy the earth and bring humanity to an extinction, if not from impact and shockwave then the rest of the people will die from nuclear radiation if enough nuclear explosions take place. We claim nuclear weapons are used solely as a deterrent but some countries will be stupid enough to launch them, causing a nuclear war. This makes today's technology bad. In conclusion, today's technology has advantages and disadvantages but overall, if humans had no intention to cause damage to the earth and each other, it would be fine. However they do; and even technology not designed to hurt or kill can potentially damage you. I think overall, we should only use technology if we know everything about it and whether or not it has the potential to harm living organisms; if it does (e.g. X-ray scanning), there should be a debate on whether or not it should be legalised.
