WEP and WPA protect your information from unauthorized access when you are using your wireless connection. Longer key harder to crack.
WEP system is practically dead because of flaws in the encryption mechanism, and basically can be cracked within minutes.
WPA is a good choice especially with long keys. If you can, use WPA2-PSK AES. This one is almost impossible to crack.
