A dog may be able to eat cheerios, but it is very unhealthy for them. Human - proceed - food is not really bad for dogs, or at least not much worse than it is for us humans. As the owner, you need to be the pack leader and provide them with food when you are in control. If you feed them from the table, then they get the wrong message. They think that they are in control, so will develop behavior problems. I would refrain from feeding them anything besides commercially available dog food in their bowls at designated feeding times. If you want it to be more tasty for them, mix in a small amount of your human food. That will tantalize their taste buds and make them think they're getting a really wonderful treat.
