How data is handled between device and motherboard, what programming extensions will work with what m/b and cpu, what types of devices the m/b can use, what format data is passed to the CPU and/or memory, the clocking rates of the system and subsystem buses.
The chipset is just that a set of chips..
the north bridge deals with video and memory
and the south bridge deals with harddrive and display
but in short the chipset determins the memory and type of connections..
I know this because i am training to be an I.T. with NASA im reading right off my notes..
The motherboards chipset provides the CPU on the motherboard with additional circuitry and logic to allow it to connect to the peripherals on the motherboard, like SLI video cards, the PCI or PCI-e connectors and to the system DRAM. There are several makers of chipsets and each one is specific to a particular CPU (mostly Intel or AMD with several othes running far behind). The chipset (set because there are usually 2 chips), sometimes referred to the FSB controller and the Northbridge, are also referred to as "glue logic" because they "glue" all the various peripherals to the CPU and allow it to operate. Typical chipsets have an HD controller, the power supply controller, address decoders for all the peripherals and a DRAM controller. DRAM needing constant attention and control lest it lose its data which is a time consuming repetative task you don't really want to burden the CPU with handling.
processor socket
in Intel mother board the mother board and all the chips also from Intel but in chipset motherboard the only chips are form Intel so this chipset is chepest in compair to orignal Intel mother board.so there is an opportunity that in chipset some chips are not from Intel so be carefull at the time of purchasing new computer from market.
You need to know the Chipset of your board
Compatible video cards for intel 82945g chipset family mother boards
yes
pin head size and amount on the data chip mount for the processer
the socket and the chipset
Motherboard is a Printed Circuit board (PCB) in which chipsets are designed like Intel 965 chipset
The motherboard is a circuit board that the chipset plugs into or is soldered into. Along with hundreds of other components on a motherboard, it is the part that actually does the computing in a computer.
You have not stated your motherboard model correctly. Some motherboards from mercury with the 845GL chipset support AGP, and some do not.
