Vitamin D is synthesized at the skin. It is synthesised by the reaction between the sun's rays and estrogen (Actually look up to be sure, it could be a different steroid very similar to estrogen)
Skin is the organ absorbing Vitamin D. The source of vitamin D is sun light. Exposing to the sun light for 10 to 15 min will gain enough vitamin for the day. Vitamin D is very essential for bone strength. Otherwise to gain the same vitamin from other source means to eat 1 tray egg/day.

The skin's functions are for protection, water resistant barrier, Vitamin D synthesis, sensation, thermoregulation and social functions (i.e., facial expressions.) The hypodermis does NONE of these. It's function is as an energy reservoir and for thermal insulation. Therefore, it does not meet the criteria for skin proper.

yes. Non vegetarians eat liver of sheep, goat, cow or buffalo etc. Sheep liver is rich in vitamin B3. Vitamin B3 is responsible for healthy skin, healthy nervous system and proper blood circulation. It is essential for proper metabolism of proteins and fats and synthesis of some hormones. Vitamin B3 maintains normal functions of digestive tract.
