We have floods nearly every Winter on the River Severn, especially around Tewkesbury and Gloucester, they occasionally happen in Summer, too, particularly in 2007 and 2008. The Summer flood of 2007 lasted a week or so, about 340,000 people were without mains drinking water for two weeks because the water works in Tewkwsbury was overwhelmed.
