Best Answer
  • lifting gas, balloons and blimps
  • helium neon lasers
  • "neon" signs
  • inert gas, arc welding
  • purge gas
  • refrigerant
  • low temperature thermometers
  • alpha particles for accelerators
  • replacement for nitrogen in breathing mixture for deep diving (prevent the bends)
  • carrier gas, chromatography
  • etc.

Helium is widely used to inflate balloons. When balloons are inflated with helium, a string has to be tied to them and something heavy or they will float into the air and out of sight. Balloons that are inflated with helium are often used for gifts or party decorations for birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occassions.

Helium is also used in neon signs. If the sign is a bright orange-red color, it is very likely that helium is being used.

In a liquid state, it helps to achieve very low temperatures in electronic devices.

Helium is also used in Asthma treatments because it diffuses easily through the lungs. When used this way, it is mixed with oxygen.

Mixed with oxygen, it is used to create an artificial air supply for deep sea divers.

Though it is not actually a use, it is sometimes inhaled because it effects the vocal cords and makes the voice a higher pitch. Inhaling helium should be avoided because it can be harmful.

Helium is used in cryogenics, in deep-sea breathing systems, to cool superconducting magnets, in helium dating, for inflating balloons, for providing lift in airships and as a protective gas for many industrial uses (such as arc welding and growing silicon wafers). Inhaling a small volume of the gas temporarily changes the timbre and quality of the human voice.

What is an atom with two neutrons protons and electrons?

If you build an atom using two protons, two neutrons and two electrons you would build an atom of Helium. To be more-precise, this would create Helium-4 the common isotope of Helium.
