When two tectonic plates slide past each other a transform fault is created. This type of fault is known for many earthquakes, yet due to the fault not changing elevation during a seismic event, these faults are not associated normally with tsunami's or volcanoes. A good example of a fault of this type is the San Andreas fault system.
The Earth's tectonic plates are made up of the lithosphere, which consists of the crust and the upper part of the mantle. The crust is primarily composed of solid rock made up of elements such as oxygen, silicon, aluminum, and iron.
The lithosphere is the part of the Earth that contains tectonic plates. These plates are divided pieces of the lithosphere that float on the semi-fluid asthenosphere beneath them.
The large pieces of Earth's crust that move over the asthenosphere are called tectonic plates. These plates are responsible for the movement of continents and the occurrence of geological events such as earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
One special feature of Earth's crust is that it is divided into tectonic plates that float and move on the semi-fluid upper mantle. This movement causes earthquakes, volcanoes, and the formation of mountain ranges.
Tectonic plates are floating on the magma (semi-molten rocks) of the mantle layer. Therefore, they form the crust layer of the Earth.
No the tectonic plates are on top of the crust.
its the earths crust
Tectonic plates.
Simple- Convection in the mantle causes mantle to slowly move, and it pushes against the crust. As it does this, the tectonic plates move.
The worlds tectonic plates slide on the earths mantle.
There called tectonic plates, and they do not float on anything.
The tectonic plates.

tectonic plates
Those would be tectonic plates.
The sudden vibration in the plates inside the crust causes the earths crust to rise & fall.
