The compound N4O4 is called tetrazine. It is a nitrogen-rich heterocyclic compound that is used in various applications such as in organic synthesis and as a building block for pharmaceuticals and explosives.

∙ 14y agoThe official IUPAC name is Dinitrogen monoxide. There are two nitrogen atoms, so the prefix di- is used and there is one oxygen, so the mono- prefix is used.
However, the compound N2O is better known as nitrous oxide, commonly known as the anesthetic "laughing gas" and an oxidizer for race cars and rockets.
(*Nitrous oxide does not actually cause laughing, but rather a semi-coherent stupor.)
