In a covalent doublt bond there are two types of bond: a sigma bond and a pi bond. In some substances a bond has resonance where a pi bond is delocalized, spanning three or more atoms, creating a bond that is somewhere in between a single bond and a double bond. In graphite, all the bonds, which are all linked with one another, have this resonance. As a result, the electrons of the pi bonds are free to mopve throuout the entire covalent network.
