Why is moscow colder than London in the winter and warmer in the summer?

When the north pole is tilted toward the sun, the north is experiencing warmer weather, or summer. The south is then colder, experiencing winter. Additionally, the tilt of the earth towards the sun in summer exposes more of the northern latitudes to the sun than in winter. This additional exposure lengthens the day by several hours allowing the sunlight to heat the surface of the earth more in summer. The shorter nights lessen the cooling of the earth overnight. The tilt of the earth in summer is sufficient to expose the uppermost latitudes to the sun for twenty-four hours resulting in a months-long day.
