its 18 but a student can only play 4 years of a sport. so if he or she stays back and already played 4yrs they can't play. but if the person just started school late and is 19 there is a waiver the guardian can sign. I'm sure it varies by state.
The last age you can go to high school is 21 and that applies to sports too
as long as you are a student at the high school you can join whatever sport the school has to offer
