Because they get payed whether you pay attention or not. Also they don't want to have to babysit you. If you earning a degree in something that affects other peoples lives, they want to make sure that you have the maturity to be able to take care of yourself.
You are paying to learn. It is not high school, your graduation does not effect them at all. You choose to come to college, they give you assignments and you complete them. They do not care if you pass or fail.
Not all college professors are like this. I am a college professor and care deeply about my students. In fact, at times I think I care more about their future then they do. Still, there are some who let their education go to their head, so some do have a ego problem. Some are frustrated by a perceived lack of enthusiasm on the part of their students, or lack of respect, and/or a multitude of other issues. Still, hopefully there are still more professors who do care as compared to those who do not.
You should not generalize that notion to include all college professors. Many do care. I am a college professor, and sometimes I think I care more about my students future than they do. I will admit there are some that are egotistical, and they really should find another career. Still, I believe the professors that care far outweigh those who do not.
Speaking as a professor, I hear this statement quite often. Still, too often students generalize this perception to include all professors which is unfair to many. At mid semester, I made this statement to my students, "I don't understand it!. I appears that I care more about your future, than you do?" The point being that I care about my students. Many professors care greatly about their students. However, I do understand your point. There are a few professors out their who are very self centered, egotistical, and uncaring. I believe they should find another line of work, maybe selling shoes or something! So, you have a point, but the next time you feel compelled to make that statement (and for good reason), I believe you should rephrase it and state, "Why do some university professors appear to not care about their students?"
Some teachers lack respect for students because the students are disrespectful. The teachers may also lack respect when they see the student uninterested in education.
It is not possible to care of you without you attend the college classes.
They are worried about themselves more than other people. Maybe they are busy learning, or just do not care.
