I'm not sure that you can learn new things while you're sleeping but I do know that if you study something right before you go to bed, it's more likely that you'll remember it the next day. I also know that while you're sleeping the brain organizes information that you've learned while you were awake.

Does sleep learning work?

There is no strong scientific evidence to suggest that sleep learning is an effective method for retaining information or learning new skills. While some studies have shown that information presented during sleep can have a small effect on memory, the results are inconsistent and limited in scope. It is generally more effective to learn and retain information while awake and conscious.

What are the main differences between the recuperation and circadian theories?

Recuperation theory, states that the bodies homeostasis stage is thrown out of whack when we are awake. Therefore we sleep to restore energy, (even though this is not proven) Or we sleep to restore homeostasis. Circadian theory suggests that we sleep, because of harm in the dark. We as humans do not require sleep physiologically, but sleep to fend off predators or harm. Circadian theory suggests that nothing will happen to the body if we do not sleep, but suggests its a good idea to reserve energy and to keep from harming ourselves in the dark.

How not to sleep in class?

Make sure that you get enough sleep at night, before going to class. Pay attention to what is going on in class. Don't daydream, don't get lost in your own thoughts. Someone is trying to teach you something, see if you can learn it.

How can you control your sleep duration?

To control your sleep duration, try to establish a consistent sleep schedule by going to bed and waking up at the same time every day. Create a bedtime routine to signal to your body that it's time to sleep, and make sure your sleep environment is conducive to rest. Avoid caffeine, electronics, and heavy meals before bed, and engage in relaxing activities to help you wind down.

Does sleep affect grades?

Yes. When you are tired, you have a harder time focusing and are more irritable. Becuase of this, you should always try to get enough sleep before a test. Children and teenagers need more sleep than adults do. You should be getting ten to twelve hours of sleep every night if you have school the next day! If you are still tired by the time you get to school in the morning, you are not getting enough sleep, and you will have to go to bed earlier on school nights so that you will be able to concentrate during school. People who are not rested do make lower grades than people who are awake and alert.
