I think Machines are made by machine tools. Classic example is Lathe

I don't think there is an official definition of the difference, but I reckon a good one would be that a tool needs to be powered by a person whereas a machine doesn't.

Definition of the difference could be as follows.

MACHINE - A device which is used to tranform the shape of any material as per requirement by some leverage mechanism but can not do so without any TOOL .

TOOL - A device which is also used to transform the shape of any material but it can do so without any MACHINE like hammer,Screw driver,file ,saw etc.

Tool can work without Machine but machine can not work without tool.

A tool is a devise that makes work easier, IE: Hammer, screwdriver, pry bar, etc.

A machine has two or more moving parts. IE: Nail Gun, Kitchen Blender, Automobile.

A machine is still a tool, but all tool are not machines.

A machine tool is a common name for machine equipment such as lathes and milling machines.
