It isn't a must, however underlining the title of a story can help to add emphasis to it, thus causing it stand out more to the reader, as does using a bold format on it and larger text. ____ In academic writing the titles of short stories should go in quotation marks and the titles of novels should be italicized or underlined.
You only underline a title of a book if it is part of the essay and not the title of the essay. Understand?
