A number of different professionals can be involved in the design of buildings and construction supervision.

The design function is normally fulfilled by Architects and/or Engineers. Different engineers that can be involved include Civil (structural) Engineers and M&E (mechanical & electrical) Engineers amongst many other types. Sometimes a different person will be employed to design the interior of a building and can be called an Interior Architect or interior decorator.

All these people can play a role in construction supervision, and sometimes a Project Manager or Construction Manager will be employed, depending upon the way the various contracts with the Owner are structured. Cost consultants, or Quantity Surveyors are also often involved.
