The English name is spelt Michael. Coming from someone who has done research (and who is called Michael), people are only called MichEAl because their parents didn't know how to spell the name.
Michael

Actually:

The meaning of the name Micheal is Who Is Like God?

The origin of the name Micheal is Irish

Notes: Irish form of Michael. Pronounced "Me-HAWL"

Both spellings can be correct. We chose "eal" because of my husbands ancestry.
Proper names have their own rules or more commonly nowadays no rules.

There are accepted ways of spelling certain names and these usually stay the same over time.

However if your name has been misspelled on your birth certificate, either deliberately or by mistake, that misspelling is your official name until you officially change it.
