Why can't i spell?

Part of the problem may be the society we presently live in. We have become a lazy people with all our varied communication methods available to most everyone. Take for example mobile phone text messaging - the words are seriously abbreviated, so one tends to eventually believe this is how they are spelled.

The real pity is that those who live in foreign countries actually spell words in the English language better than most Americans do ... and we were born here ... sad reality!

You may be dyslexic. It is a learning disability and can be helped. Maybe you need some help, like phonics. When you can read, spell, and comprehend well, you can do anything. Just follow the directions.

I think that it is because that people are sometimes just much better at other subjects and that possibly because they have to try to be good at other things but those things take too much time to have enough time to study spelling. Many people either do not take spelling seriously or have not encountered the proper spelling of all of the words that they use in speech. Written languages such as English require proper spelling to ensure that the reader correctly understands what the writer is trying to say.

Some people can. I suppose the rest just can't be bothered trying. This is an international website. To some using it English is not their primary language. The English language is very difficult to spell sometimes, because we have so many influences from other languages. Remember the "I before E except after C" rule? Well more words break that rule than follow it. What about other words like yacht, Wednesday, gnome, and knife. They aren't spelled like they sound. Why aren't they spelled yawt, Wensday, nome, and nife?

The reason is that English spelling was mostly standardized about 600 years ago when English was Middle English, not Modern English.
