Best Answer

Mayella is lying because she is scared of her father, Bob Ewell, who abused her and is pressuring her to lie in court. She also wants to protect herself from the judgment and ridicule of the community. Additionally, her false accusation against Tom Robinson serves to preserve the racial hierarchy in Maycomb.

Mayella says that Tom Robinson assaulted her. He didn't. He was walking past the house as usual when she called him in to do something for her. She asked him to grab a box off a chiffarobe, while doing so she grabbed him and hugged him. And kissed him. in the book it hinted that her father molests her

Mayella Ewell lied to cover up her actions towards Tom Robinson. She lied because she was afraid. She lied because she knew she was guilty. She lied because she did not want the truth to come out, ever.

She is afraid of the consequences she would face from her father and also being exposed as a liar. She does not want the community to know about her feelings for Tom.
