The biggest fruit in the world is without question the Atlantic Giant pumpkin grown from seeds from Howard and Hilda Dill's farm in Prince Edward Island, Canada.

Last year (2009), Christy Harp from Ohio,, USA grew the first pumpkin ever recorded to surpass 1700 lbs - hers weighed in at 1725 lbs. An Ontario, Canada couple came in a close second at about 1675 lbs.

For those mundane souls who want to argue the term "fruit" (just in case anyone does), lets study a little basic botany. To the botanical biologist, anything - and I do mean anythingwhether it be a pumpkin, bean, tomato, apple, strawberry, acorn or pinecone - anything that develops after the successful pollination of a blossom, is called a fruit. The term "vegetable" has no meaning in botany (it does have some meaning to nutritionists, but is still a bit vague) other than that the term "vegetation" refers to all plant matter as a general category of living things.
