There are a few things that raise happiness:
Walking 256 steps with the Pokemon in your party (+1)
Take them for a groom (FR/LG and D/P)
Give them vitamins (Carbos, Irons etc.)
Use them in battles with Gym Leaders, E4 and Champion
Level them up.
Letting the Pokemon hold soothe bell will double the points they get, as will catching them in a luxury ball.

Battle points may be obtained by beating games in the Battle Frontier, such as the battle tower where you take on 7 trainers with three pokemon. You could also do the battle castle.
