all you have to do is beat the game. then you go back to the episodes. go to episode 1 level 2 it will say story mode and explore mode. click on explore mode. once you get to the level hold the c button on the nunchuk. hold it until in the bottom left or right corner will be a character wheel that only shows 5 characters at a time. if the character you want is a little bit black and is blinking press the a button on the wii remote. if the character you want is not there go to the clubhouse then click rewards then costumes. find the costume you want then go to any explore mode level. do the instructions from sentences 5 and 6.
