Alex and Justin turned themselves into Max but neither of them knew that Alex/Justin was also turning into him. They did this because max was holding the Wizard competition back until he could get better at magic. Everyone knew he wasn't doing the right thing, it wasn't fair. Max refused to turn it back.

No one could turn it back unless they were max. Alex and Justin had the same idea to turn themselves into max so they could go to the Wizard Council's Office, and so they did. They went to the Wizard Council's office at the same time, but didn't know it. They bumped into each-other both asking the secretary for the same thing, and that's when Max decided to come to the Wizard Council's office to make the right choice, and so he did. Now there were 3 of them there asking the secretary for the same thing. Alex and Justin didn't know what to do, so they took out their wands and accidentally collided spells. When you collide spells anything can happen. Colliding spells means when 2 people do two spells at the same time and nature thinks they are together. So they collided spells and they turned Max into a little girl, Maxine.
