The fictional character Albus Dumbledore was played by the actor Richard Harris in the first two films (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets), however he was diagnosed with a terminal illness and died on 25 October 2002.
The part was recast and Michael Gambon was chosen for the role which he played for the rest of the film series and who is still with us.

Harry can chose to die or go back (because he isn't fully dead only the part of Voldemort inside him is) and Dumbledore talks to him there.
