If you are using an emulator like VBA to play Pokemon Fire Red then you do not save as you normally do. You save using the emulator controls.

You need to start two or more VBA windows at once then go to options, emulator and make sure the pause window when inactive features is off. Then set up all the controls and select the Pokemon you wish to trade.

The cheats will keep going on . If you selected the cheats on Pokemon Leaf Green VBA it will stay perminettly not unless you delete everything you have and start a new one and delete of what you had when you first got the nintendo. I mean you have to change everything meaning your name birthday and if it doesnt work you have to live with it or get a new game of leafgreen. Sorry :(
