An inference is a conclusion based on information given.
A prediction is an educated guess of what will happen next without any knowledge of the actual results.
Example: An experiment is designed to test if hot water will dissolve more salt than cold water.
PREDICTION: 'Hot water will dissolve more salt than cold water'. (This is what you PREDICT before the experiment is done.)
INFERENCE: 'Hot water dissolved more salt than cold water because.......'. (This is what you INFER after the experiment is done).
We routinely use the term 'hypothesis' when we mean 'prediction'. A hypothesis is an assumption about the nature of something. It's based on facts or experimentation. A prediction is a guess about an outcome.
Example:
Problem (engineering): Battery operated car does not go fast enough.
Engineering goal: Make car go faster.
Hypothesis: Electricity is more powerful than batteries.
Prediction (with methods): Powering car with electricity will make it go faster.
Observations is watching when predictions are estimating or guessing.
An inference is not a wild guess because if follows a logical flow of thought. Given the same facts, any reasonable person would make a similar conclusion.
You make a prediction before experimentation-you predict what will happen. You make an inference after experimentation-you infer the results.
Inferences help you make a prediction

Qualitative predictions are predictions based on quality. How effective is the product, or program expected to be? Quantitative predictions are based on quantities, in other words, numbers. How many people, products or units are expected.
The main difference between a horoscope and a kundli is that a horoscope is primarily used in Western Astrology, whereas a kundli is used in Indian Vedic Astronomy. However, today the term horoscope is commonly assumed to be synonymous with the predictions rather than the charts to make the predictions.
A Census is the type of survey for a complete population. A Sample Survey is only a portion of the population which is used to make predictions on the representation of the actual population.
The descriptive statistics deals with prediction. The inductive and the deductive statistics basically deals with presumption. The inductive statistics is used in making predictions.
Standard error is the difference between a researcher's actual findings and their expected findings. Standard error measures the accuracy of one's predictions. Standard deviation is the difference between the results of one's experiment as compared with other results within that experiment. Standard deviation is used to measure the consistency of one's experiment.

Impartial estimates place the groundhog's accuracyΒ between 35% and 41%.
A prediction is a reasonable guess or explanation. A hypothesis is theory; a reasonable idea.
Sports handicappers are the persons that create the handicaps for a sporting or other event. Sometimes their predictions are true, sometimes they are not. Sports handicapping is the term that applies to what these individuals actually due. The goal is to predict who will win or lose.
