Planes are made of a vast variety of alloys (blend of metals) because different parts of a plane experience different stresses and different materials handle these stresses in different ways. Aircraft also need to be as light as possible so the challenge engineers face, when designing an airplane, is to pick materials that are strong, light, and resist corrosion where needed.

For example, in areas where high temperatures are generated, such as in the engine, titanium would be a suitable metal. Titanium is not only light, but can withstand high temperatures.

The landing gear has its own set of strength requirements although it doesn't need to resist heat, it must be incredibly strong, light, and not be "brittle" so that it is more likely to give before it breaks. For this its made out of a steel alloy 4340 or similar (composed of steel and other metals).

The wings need to be made with compression strength alloys such as 7075-T6 because the wing experiences flex forces.

the fuselage would be made of various alloys like 2024-T3 and 2024-T4 because they resist fatigue cracking and crack prorogation is limited (how fast a crack moves).
