There is an up and down in space. "Down" is simply the direction gravity is pulling you, and "up" is just the opposite direction. Since there is gravity everywhere in space, there is also an up and down everywhere in space.

There is no up and down in space. It’s kind of like when we look at a globe, If you are trying to get to Japan from the U.S., you can see it is both east and west of the U.S. It depends on the direction you want to travel. If you want to cross the Atlantic Ocean, you go east.

∙ 6y agoNot really. In so far as we are Eurocentric, the North Pole has been defined to be up. That defines "up" for the plane of the earth's orbit. By extension, that defines "up" for the sun's orbit around the centre of the Milky Way.
