Someone answered Primate in response to the question "what class do chimps belong to"...this is incorrect. When you're referring to "Class", chimpanzees belong to the class Mammalia, similar to other mammals (i.e., humans, cats, horses, etc.).
Chimps belong next to the order Primate. Everything from lemurs and lorises, to tarsiers, monkeys, apes and humans are also primates.
***Remember that chimpanzees are APES. Unlike monkeys, chimps lack a tail. Other apes include gorillas, orangutans, siamangs and so forth. ***
